The Budget Smart Girl's Guide to the Universe

Welcome to the Budget Smart Girl’s Guide to the Universe blog. It’s especially for readers of both Eating Well on a Budget and the Budget Smart Girl’s Guide to the Universe columns that can be viewed at www.gardenandhearth.com/EatingWellonaBudget.htm and www.gardenandhearth.com/Bargain-Shopping.htm. But if you’ve found this blog by chance, welcome to you too.
I hope to add tips and hints I don’t always have room for in my weekly articles. And I’m also using this blog to fill you in how I’m doing on my search for bargains, ways to save money, and updates about projects I’m working on.
I also write a monthly column for my local newspaper… also called Budget Smart. Its focus is on ways to get the most out of your entertainment dollar. The August theme was places to visit before the end of summer, and I’ve just handed in the September article that has an arts and crafts theme. The one thing I’ve discovered since I started writing this column is that although it takes a bit more time finding places to go, and things to do that won’t break the bank, I’m happy to report it’s still possible. I found a vineyard where you can do some wine sampling for just $3, and a wildlife refuge with some great nature trails and picnic areas that has a free admission price.
In other writing news, I’m putting together a couple of book proposals. One is based on my Eating Well on a Budget column. And I’m also considering teaching an online class based on the Eating Well column.
I don’t know whether it’s a sign of the times and that everyone’s feeling the pinch these days, but have you noticed how many morning and weekend shows are featuring money saving segments? And just this week I picked up a couple of women’s magazines and both had loads of articles on ways to save money.
Hope you’ll stop back to read more of my blogs.
